Students Prepare to Entertain with a Night of Murder and Mystery

Uhill Secondary students present their rendition of Clue: On Stage this month.

Whodunit”?

Starting off the new year with a bang, Clue: On Stage is coming to the stage of University Hill Secondary School this month.

Presented by the University Hill Secondary Theatre Company, the play is a murder mystery comedy based on the cult-classic 1985 movie Clue by Jonathan Lynn, which was inspired by the famed board game.

Ms. Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Mrs. White, and Colonel Mustard find themselves in Boddy Manor where the butler, Wadsworth, guides them through a night of suspense, murders, and chaos.

The characters assemble for a dinner party hosted by their unknown blackmailer. All of the characters have murder on their minds, and their mysterious host ends up dead. The play proceeds as characters scramble to unearth the truth, defy accusations, and discover who is the murderer among them.

The University Hill Secondary Theatre Company is composed of non-audition, on-timetable classes made up of students from grades 9-12 who then work on performing and staging the show.

Since the beginning of the school year, actors have been memorizing their lines and developing their acting skills. Seeing the work the company has done to breathe life into each character and managing the frantic yet entertaining energy of it all has been a highlight for those involved.

This year, with some 30 passionate actors involved in the company, performances will alternate between two casts.

The production departments have also been working hard to make the show a reality. “This year’s set is the most ambitious we’ve ever tried to make at our school,” says stage manager Sierra Vozel.

“Our designers have gone all-out this year. The costumes, set, and props will be a highlight for sure.”
