Eagle Glassheim, an incumbent director of the University Neighbourhoods Association, was unanimously acclaimed as chair of the association’s board of directors during the inaugural meeting of the newly elected board on December. 10.
Glassheim (who is also chair of the editorial board of The Campus Resident) was elected to a six-month term. His term was limited to give the new board a chance to get to know one another better before filling the post for a full term.
Evan Luo was unanimously acclaimed as secretary for a normal term.
The board chair determines the dates, times and locations of board meetings and is responsible for working with the chief administrative officer to prepare meeting agendas. The secretary is responsible, alongside the UNA staff, with preparing and keeping records of the board’s activity.
The first regular meeting of the full board was held the following week, on Dec. 17. During the meeting, Staff Sgt. Chuck Lan, the RCMP detachment commander, told the board that the force received over 6,000 calls in 2024 compared to just 3,900 in 2023. He also noted that traffic safety initiatives were ongoing to reduce speeding and impaired driving around campus.
Chris Hakim, the association’s corporate services specialist, told the board that the 2024 board election, based on electronic voting, saw the highest-ever number of ballots cast and that the transition to the new system happened smoothly. He suggested that an orientation session should be held before the next election to educate prospective board members on the duties and responsibilities of a director.
