A Rockin’ Neighbours Day

UNA’s flagship event held on Sept. 9 welcomed over 2,000 community members and friends.

Neighbours Day is a signature UNA annual event that looks to build community by bringing neighbours together for a day of festivities, food and fun.

This year’s Neighbours Day, held on a sunny Sept. 9, welcomed over 2,000 community members and friends.

The event was held for the first time on the UNA Community Field. Walking through the giant blow-up rainbow arch entrance, event goers were welcomed by 32 community partners, local organizations, and sustainability groups such as Girl Guides, SUCCESS, and Sharewares.

This was also the first time that local artisan vendors participated, selling unique artwork and children’s balloons.

The main stage, sponsored by UBC Properties Trust, showcased a variety of performances. Yuki the Juggler and Kellie Haines the Ventriloquist wowed young children in the morning, while a variety of cultural dancers and cover bands entertained audiences of all ages in the afternoon.

Other activities included inflatable and field games, drop-in yoga and Zumba, bubble soccer, children’s story time sponsored by the Vancouver Public Library and UBC Linguistics, Urban Rec volleyball and spikeball tournaments, and the Granville Island Beer beer garden. The UNA Snack Bar made its return with its popular offerings of popcorn and cotton candy. Mr. Tubesteak and Vera’s Burger Shack were also on-site serving dogs and burgers to hungry visitors.

An event of this scope could not have happened without dedicated volunteers. They are owed a huge thanks for their hard work and effort to make the day a success. And thanks to everyone who attended.

We hope to see you again next year!
