Get to Know Your UNA Card Benefits

The UNA card has a wide range of benefits, including free access to campus cultural attractions such as the Museum of Anthropology.

Did you know having a UNA Card has benefits that extend all over campus?

Residents living in areas administered by the UNA can become cardholders just by ordering one on the association’s website.

Benefits include free or discounted entry to certain facilities around campus, as well as discounts at stores and camps.

Cardholders are eligible for free entry to cultural facilities such as the Museum of Anthropology, the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Nitobe Memorial Garden, and the UBC Botanical Garden. The savings on a single adult admission are substantial, as current rates are $26 for MOA, $18 for Beaty, $14.50 for the Botanical Garden, and $10 for the Nitobe Memorial Garden.

There is also a 10 per cent UNA discount at all of the museum gift shops, and a 20 per cent discount on the price of entry to the Botanical Garden’s Greenheart Treewalk, including an annual pass for just $20 – which offers big savings as the single-entry fee is $15.

UBC Recreation has many discounts on access to facilities, including the university’s Aquatic Centre, tennis courts, and the Doug Mitchell Sports Centre.

Discounts tend to be higher for yearly passes than for day passes. For the UBC Aquatic Centre, an adult day pass for cardholders offers a roughly 4 per cent discount, while residents willing to commit for an annual pass get a 7 per cent discount. Tot, child, and adult swim lessons average an 11 per cent discount off the public rate.

Discounts can also vary by day of the week. Adult drop-in skating at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre is 3 per cent off on Sundays and 10 per cent off on Thursdays. Adult ice skating lessons can be purchased with an 11 per cent discount off the standard rate.

UBC camps offered during Pro-D days and winter, spring, and summer breaks, as well as year-long youth athletic clubs are also available at discounted rates. Check UBC Recreation’s webpage for full details.

At UNA Community Centres, cardholders can get a 10 per cent discount on almost all programs and services, including but not limited to recreation programs, fitness centre passes and personal training, room rentals, and camps.

Throughout campus, cardholders can also receive discounts of up to 10 per cent on certain venue rentals for special events like birthday parties, as well as field rentals.

Beyond campus, UNA residents can get a library card issued by the Vancouver Public Library, valid for one year, by bringing their UNA card and a valid form of identification to any branch.

Getting a UNA card is easy. The first step is to create an account on the UNA website and follow the required instructions.
